APED: "rapunzel"

August 8th, 2009 (10:21 pm)

Rapunzel, living in her tower,
looked down at the men below,
sometimes throwing down a spitball --
did they hit? She didn't know.

Rapunzel washed her hair twice daily,
braided it till it was strong,
cut off the braid, climbed out the window --
she'd owned her rescue all along.

I wish I'd had that Rapunzel when I was in middle school, rifling through piles of fairy tale anthologies in the library during my free period and getting told that fairy tales were for kids.

Thanks for giving her to me now. 'Cause I've had some stuff to think over in life, and really, sometimes, you just have to save yourself.

athleticism

Adding my name to the "really liked this one" list.

Also: this made me pine for my crazy long hair again for the first time since I hacked it all off?!?!

You did another one about Little Red Riding Hood a while back, although I don't remember if I commented there. Anyway, point being, I like the "re-working fairy tales with awesome non-damsels" poems!
