Yuletide: my Yule Goat letter!

Dear Yule Goat,

I'm pretty much a genfic guy. Light romance is okay, especially if it's funny, but for the most part I'm the farthest thing possible from a relationshipper. I don't want characters to get smooshed together; I want to watch them interact. I'm not a big fan of pure romance, and I really don't want porn. My big thing is that I like seeing the characters relate as friends. This applies even if they're in a romantic relationship -- grand falling-in-love stuff bores me, particularly if it's emotionally fraught, but the quiet day-to-day of characters doing things puts a smile on my face. I love plot, but I definitely don't mind lightly plotted fic if it's fun to read.

Here are the fandoms I've requested this year:

FANDOM: Sydney Padua's The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage

PROMPT: A Yuletide Lovelace & Babbage crime-fighting adventure is hampered by Babbage's efforts to make sure the bah-humbug Lovelace has a merry Christmas. Bonus points if Babbage enlists the help of bad-boy engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. I'm looking for wackiness and crimefighting, not romance -- Padua's Brunel and Lovelace do have some kind of weird tension going on, but Lovelace does have a husband somewhere, after all -- so holiday casefic would be especially glorious.

FANDOM: Adam Warren's Empowered (comic)

PROMPT: I'd like an Empowered story in which Ninjette attempts to save Christmas for Emp and Thugboy, and the Caged Demonwolf, insistent that Ninjette is incapable of rescuing Yuletide without his advice, tags along for the ride. Bonus points if you can somehow get Ninjette and the Caged Demonwolf messing with Major Havoc's head in there, too.

(As I said, I'm not a shipper, but this is EMPOWERED, after all, so feel free to have flirting and double- or single-entendres galore. Particularly with the Caged Demonwolf. The more alliterative, the better.)

FANDOM: Mickey Spillane -- Mike Hammer series.

You know that bit at the end of I, THE JURY, where Mike Hammer is sitting in the dark with a gun waiting for the killer and has that crazy rambling soliloquy about killers and how they mess up and what he's going to do to this one and how he's going to get revenge and make the killer suffer, just like you did, Jack, and it goes on and on and if you haven't realized it already that's the point where you go, "Holy crap, Mike Hammer is batshit insane!"?

Like that, but about the young Mike Hammer waiting for Santa Claus.

(A plain pastiche of that scene alone would make my Yuletide, but if you make it actual casefic with wee!Mike running about doing age-appropriate investigation of the Santa Claus caper -- packing a peashooter or slingshot, ranting with insane fervor about kid stuff -- with wee versions of Pat Chambers and Velda to boot, written as if Mickey Spillane had written it at the height of his powers, I will love you forever.)

FANDOM: Doc Savage (any)

PROMPT: I'd especially love something straight from the original pulps, but I'll take DC's First Wave Doc in a pinch if you're more comfortable with that. Since First Wave hasn't really premiered yet, the pulps would probably be the easier way to go. If you haven't read any of the Doc Savage pulp novels, which is really likely, you can download a sample of seven of them in zipped text format here.

As for specifics: a very Doc Savage Christmas would be awesome. Doc may be a physical and mental marvel, but when you pry him out of the lab he's not all that comfortable with people. So when his cousin Pat accuses him of not knowing how to have a properly festive holiday season, Doc decides to use his accumulated skill and ability to make Christmas extra-Christmassy, and his aides (especially Monk and Ham) try to help. Er, kind of like THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, except with 1930s superscience occasionally interrupted by gunmen.

I am aware that this prompt is thoroughly ridiculous.

Thanks again for writing for me, and I really look forward to whatever strikes your fancy.

Best,

David

First Wave hit the newsstands this past Wednesday. If I'm thinking of the same thing: Batman and Doc together in 1930s New York/Gotham.

That's the one-shot. I don't know when the actual First Wave stuff kicks off.
