SPARTACUS: I can't believe I didn't notice this

Sometimes you see something a bunch of times without realizing what you're looking at. In my defense, there is a lot of WTF in Spartacus that's bigger, more emphasized, more in your face, but I really can't believe that I missed this.

What is wrong with this picture?

the gladiator training ground

Maybe you guys see this stuff instantly, but for me, I cannot *believe* how long it took me to notice that the gladiators' training yard is bounded by three walls AND A SHEER DROP OF SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET.

...man, I bet Batiatus loses a LOT of gladiators doing wind sprint drills.

Beh. If they could not come to a complete halt before falling to their deaths, they would bring no glory to the arena anyway. *grin*

OSHA! Somebody call OSHA! Christ, it's like a Star Wars set around here!

The more I look at that, the weirder it gets. That's an exterior wall! Why does it have *four freakin' doors* in it?

Since we got the kid an Xbox, and I bought an Xbox Live membership for myself, we've been doing a lot of streaming Netflix watching.

And Spartacus is on the list of available programs, damn you!

So now I have to watch it and see for myself.

(And they're magic doors, obviously.) They lead to Other Places, but only when they're open...and you never know when they will be. It's a crossover fan's dream.

facepalm

You know who I fully expect to show up in a SPARTACUS fanfic crossover? Captain Jack Harkness.

(The only trick: once the story is over, Jack will not want to *leave.*)

Before the earthquake that dropped that cliff away, that was a lovely little roadside motel.

To be fair, to me that looks like standard ancient Mediterranean courtyard house design; in some old Spanish & Italian houses, there simply are no interior corridors, you go outside to go from one room to the next. Usually into the courtyard, but sometimes they'll just have doors opening from the room into the street even.

I could buy that if there were rooms over there, or a building, or, hell, a street. But it looks like an exterior wall. As far as I can tell, those doors don't have anything to go into, and if they're going through the wall, why do you need four of 'em in a row?

Clearly, Batiatus's architect was nuts.

Oh, I thought there were rooms or something carved into the rock back there! I thought you meant it was an exterior wall in that it opened onto the training yard.

The more I see your posts on this show, the more I almost regret my lack of a television. I'm clearly missing 100 percent pure quality WTF here.

Oh, it's at LEAST 110 percent pure WTFery.

I did not get it. I assumed that the WTF you meant was the Poser-quality CGI. D'oh!

easily amused

I suppose he uses it for when a gladiator-in-training starts to hesitate, he says "you want to leave? there's the door."

I, know I´m a little late, but the side where there is no wall, it is like 100 meters down to the ground. The "magic doors" lead into little gladiator rooms which you can see the roof on actually. The roof is a little lover than the wall actually therefore you can't see it corectly from that angle.
