a couple of random links

For a long time, I've been fascinated by the concept of sustainable living. So at the same time as I back stuff like building more nuclear plants and oil refineries, I'm interested in solar power in the home, small-scale building by owner, rooftop gardens, and nontraditional architecture. For me, I think it comes down to the individualist thing; the more you can do for yourself, the more you're truly free. (Also, I like greenery. It's comforting.)

Of course, I'm thinking about all this with an eye toward an eventual country homestead, but I was surprised to run across a family who're homesteading pretty successfully on their city lot in Pasadena. Pretty neat, though most of the detailed article links don't work. I get the feeling they've been through a recent redesign and expansion and got ahead of themselves.

Also, I give you a link I can't remember where I found: Puppy vs. Kitty. Enjoy the cuteness. (And Kitty's utter unwillingness to give up. For very long.)
