range report: Taurus PT-145 and Ruger Mark III

Happy new year to all! I hope everyone had a festive New Year's Eve. Mine included watching MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 (Eegah and Soultaker), along with the imbibing of truly awful Mexican champagne. Quoth my friend Denise: "Ewww, it tastes like I barfed!"

Earlier, we went to the range and tried out the new guns. Disappointedly, the COP did not fire; the mechanism clearly functioned, but the firing pins did not reach far enough forward to trigger the primers. The bottom right chamber got a light strike, and the others didn't have any contact at all. The folks at the store asked me to bring it back and they'd see what they could do. The PT-145 worked well, though it needs some more firing to break it in; I had a few failures to feed. The Ruger broke in much more quickly, and was a joy to shoot, which is no surprise, as the company's been making 'em for fifty years.
