via metafandom, writerlibrarian reports one of the most impressive cases of fanfic plagiarism to date! OK, it doesn't compare to the whole Cassandra Claire thing, but it is remarkable for the confluence of real world and fandom: a French Canadian publisher put out a fantasy adventure about an immortal woman that, his PR touted, was by a 12-year-old girl. I guess he figured he could get some ERAGON-style hype, or something. Anyway, two things came out in short order: 1) it was a HIGHLANDER: THE SERIES fanfic, and 2) the girl didn't write it. It was a fanfic from the French HIGHLANDER fandom circles, and when the book started getting press some of those same fen looked it up and said, "Hey, this sounds familiar." Only, you know, in French.
