A few years ago, I started a Memorial Day tradition: I set an empty place at my table for the fallen, or for those who can't be home because they have work to do. It's not much, but it's not a hollow gesture; the prophet Elijah is honored at the table once a year, too, and all he gets for his glory is a cup of wine. (Though, given the booze restrictions in many duty stations, I'm sure Willie and Joe would be tempted to buttonhole Elijah at Pesach and offer him a trade.)
