it is official: there's water on Mars
"Are you ready to celebrate? Well, get ready: We have ICE!!!!! Yes, ICE, *WATER ICE* on Mars! w00t!!! Best day ever!!" the Mars Phoenix Lander tweeted at about 5:15 pm.
I believe this to be the first time for a NASA communique to ever use the word "w00t."
It is entirely appropriate.
ETA: okay, technically, there was ice that sublimated, but still. I just love the fact that five years ago, the Mars Odyssey orbiter suggested there was subsurface ice, and so the Lander scrapes around a bit, and sure enough...
