First off, thanks for making the effort. I know my requests are a little weird. Scratch that -- a lot weird. I'm grateful there's somebody who's taking the time to try.
I don't know if you know me or not, so I'll give you a bit of info about what I'd really love to get. I'm pretty much a genfic guy. Light romance is okay, especially if it's funny, but for the most part I'm the farthest thing possible from a relationshipper. I don't want characters to get smooshed together; I want to watch them interact. I'm not a big fan of pure romance, and I really don't want porn. My big thing is that I like seeing the characters relate as friends. This applies even if they're in a romantic relationship -- grand falling-in-love stuff bores me, but the quiet day-to-day of characters doing things puts a smile on my face. I love plot, but I definitely don't mind lightly plotted fic if it's fun to read.
As you know, I've requested some weird fandoms: a 1930s pulp, an obscure-as-hell movie, a brilliantly bizarre Terry Gilliam flick, and a classic science fiction novel.
For the Doc Savage prompt, my request was, "I'd really love a fic that humanizes Doc a little -- nothing fancy, but a WAFF-type genfic with humor would be terrific. Maybe Princess Monja in New York? Bonus points for Monk and Ham banter." I don't know if there's a lot I can add to this. I love the comraderie among Doc and his aides, and I really enjoy those moments when Doc is forced to break his reserve a little and try to relate to other people just as a person for a while. He doesn't succeed all that well -- it's one of only a few things he's not good at -- but it's awfully endearing when he does try.
Also, Pat Savage and Princess Monja cheerfully wreaking havoc at fashionable nightclubs, with or without Monk and Ham in tow, would be pure glory.
For MAN OF THE CENTURY -- yeah, I know, I'm the only person who ever saw this movie. But I'd love to see some post-movie genfic with Johnny and Samantha. Maybe they're even married by now, with a kid. But the thing I'd love to see is a Samantha-centric story which sees her dealing with how Johnny sees the world. Maybe, over time, she's come to understand that his perceptions and actions are entirely governed by his circa 1928 framework, but understanding something doesn't mean you necessarily know how to work around it. There are things Johnny simply doesn't see; how can you get him into the 21st century? Can you give him a Blackberry and tell him it's a portable telegram machine, or does Johnny just ignore it, the way he ignores the existence of homosexuality and the modern phone system? How does Samantha keep her relationship with him going smoothly? What would happen if Richard and Tim got tired of Johnny not noticing, and tried to come out to him -- could he even process it?
For TIME BANDITS -- anything. really, anything. A heist gone wrong would be ideal, but I would love a gen story about the Bandits, with or without Kevin, doing dang near anything. My favorite bandit is Randall, as you'd expect, but I really am not particular for this fandom.
For H. Beam Piper's LITTLE FUZZY -- I think my request says it all: "I'd just love a sweet, gentle bit of genfic with Jack and Little Fuzzy, and whoever else you'd like to join them."
Thanks again for writing for me.
