Ollie says, "What makes you think it was the only time?"

My bet: they made Sue forget, too.

death's skirt

You know, it's not the fact that Meltzer used a rape for shock effect that bothers me, it's that it doesn't seem to occur to the JLA people there that they should, you know, drag Dr. Light in front of the law? So that Sue can get justice and closure? Sheesh.

Green: the new black

Uh... that came across to you as being done just for shock value? Really? It did not feel at all gratuitous to me.

As far as just handing Light over to the Law... these are people who have seen bad guys, over and over and OVER again, be jailed for their crimes but, one way or another, get out and commit more. It was less than six months after Iris West was killed -- are you familiar with the backstory there? And Light had just threatened to hunt down people close to ALL the JLA members and do the same thing to them.

That said, yes, it did occur to them to go another route. It was a narrow vote.

Yes, but see, instead of trying to make the justice system stick, or finding some other way of taking Dr. Light out of circulation for good (short of murder, obviously) and give Sue some sense of closure, they magically lobotomize him. So now, instead of a villain, he's a ... lame villain. Right.

Also, though I did note the narrow vote, the JLA pretty much pushed Sue right out of the serving-justice equation right after the rape. They couldn't deal with Dr. Light's trash-talking long enough to see what Sue (and Ralph) wanted done. They weren't even considering how she would feel and that if possible they should punish Dr. Light in a way that would give her closure.

Weird random reply to an old comment...

Hi Jack!

It was less than six months after Iris West was killed -- are you familiar with the backstory there?

I'm not familiar at all - just read my copy of Identity Crisis #2 and I was stumped. Fill me in? Please?

Hero (Babs doing her Oracle thang)

My bet: they made Sue forget, too.

EEEEK!

...But actually I'm inclined to think not. Certainly, not without Ralph (and Sue!) agreeing to it, and really, given how aware they were that they really didn't know what they were doing mucking with Light's mind, they would've at least waited to see how he turned out before trying it on an ally -- and if anybody suggested wiping Sue after what happened to Light, they'd be lucky if they didn't wind up lobotomised themselves. Sue was strong. She wasn't a JLA member for nothing.
