I am having a new HD put in my computer, because, well, I could use another hundred gigs, and this is cheaper than buying a new machine. (And I'd do it myself, but I have one of the 12-inch G4 Powerbooks, and every single resource I've looked at says, "Oh, you have a 12-inch... um. Yeah, you should really hire somebody to do that one for you.") So, of course, this means wiping everything off the old hard drive and overwriting the data multiple times, because we all know what one of the perks of replacing hard drives is: getting to snoop through all the customer's shit. I had very recent back-ups, but, y'know, stuff, so I figured I'd check and update the backup drive again.
Good thing I did. Because it was deader than a doornail.
...I have the cold sweats just *thinking* about what could have happened.
(OTOH, at least I found out before I wiped and overwrote the drive.)
