On posts I want to make:

-- the thing about guns being smuggled over the US/Mexican border
-- the one about the recent mass shootings (short version: the one in Germany is the one that scares the willies out of me)
-- another post on ideological fiction, or, why Lee Child's latest book sucks donkey balls
-- the Kindle 2 review (short version: "oooooooooooohhh, sweet mystery of life, at last I've found you")

And I still need to catch up on SCC and DOLLHOUSE. My job has me behind a pokey-as-hell internet connection during the week, and I have barely been home the last few weekends. SCC is still going back and forth, but when the show is on, *damn* is it on. DOLLHOUSE is disappointing so far; it's like watching a guy do two seconds of juggling five butcher knives before he puts them down to show you slideshows of his Aunt Ethel visiting the Grand Canyon. There are interesting stories that could be told with the premise and format, and DOLLHOUSE seems bound and determined not to tell any of 'em.

("Alpha is coming!" is not enough. I do not give a rat's ass about Alpha coming or not, because the show has not made me give a crap about the established order of the series premise; why on earth should I care if it is threatened or overturned? The Alpha hints do not tantalize. They make it seem as if the show is saying, "Yeah, we suck now, but JUST WAIT." If the show is doing a bad job out of the gate, it is not likely to do better with the advanced stuff.)

Re: Dollhouse... I keep waiting for it to have that Joss Whedon awesomeness. It just keeps not happening. Nevertheless, I persevere. Oh well...

I have an old fic that is missing some technobabble. Barry Allen, forensic police scientist, is in a bar and starts telling a girl interesting things about his exciting job and ends up grossing her out.

Would you happen to know where I could find samples of that sort of thing?

Do the Lee Child thing next, if you can. I know he's really popular, but I read his first novel and thought it was airless and full of coincidence.

I also am looking forward to this post.

The reviewer Alan Sepinwall claimed that he'd been told the sixth episode of Dollhouse is when it gets good (or as he most recently put it, "the magical sixth episode that will feed the poor, heal the sick and clothe the nude"). I have to admit that I gave up after the third episode, although I might watch the sixth episode just to see.

I haven't been watching the show except in snatches as I fail to tune it out as my housemates watch it but I found myself wanting to punt the marketing executives for the way they were promoting the sixth episode. "The episode that will change everything"? In big doomy voices with big doomy music?

Seriously, Dollhouse, you're a freshman show going on your SIXTH EPISODE. You do not have an established show. Nobody cares about how things are now, who the hell cares if they change? If you were late in your sophmore season, maaaaybe you could get away with that Episode That Changes Everything nonsense and have it be remotely meaningful. You're not, however, so plz to be stuffing it.

It's amazing how uninvested I am in figuring out what the hell is actually going on. Usually I'm at least vaguely curious, when I catch snatches here and there of a show. This one? Not so much. It's unfortunate, because there was a fascinating, creepy premise in there.

I might pay a little bit of attention to the sixth episode, though, to see what the hell they thought was worth over-hyping. (My guess: nothing. But what the hell, if my housemates are going to inflict it on me anyway...)

"Yeah, we suck now, but JUST WAIT."

ahhahaha. That about sums up what I think, though I keep watching.
