APED: "ferris wheel"

September 6th, 2009 (10:59 pm)

The barnyard isn't different. All the smells are just the same,
and so's the pig, a little bigger now,
and you're happy to be by here, you're always glad you came,
but this visit feels a little different, in some way, somehow.
Loading up the truck, the fair is calling,
so many things to do and smell and see.
And if you didn't know it, flying's a little bit like falling,
depending on the ground and sky, and where you let them be.

The truck is running rumbly, and its engine needs a tune,
but it gets you to the fair in record time.
And there's cotton candy waiting, circus peanuts and balloons,
and the funhouse where the mirrors show your face in wavy lines.
But somehow it's just not the same as last year,
the sensation that you feel is something new,
it's a little bit excitement, it's a little bit like fear,
and the world is full of other things, and some that you can do.

It's time for one more turning of the seasons,
the one you leave's the last one that you'll know:
Henry Fussy's waiting for you by the Ferris wheel,
and it's time you met him, Fern, so go.

You leave some things unfinished. But they'll finish anyway,
and you've got some things beginning of your own.
It has to happen sometime, might as well begin today,
the Ferris Wheel is going up, no need to ride alone.
It's time for one more turning of the seasons,
the one you leave's the last one that you'll know:
Henry Fussy's waiting for you by the Ferris wheel,
and it's time you met him, Fern, so go.
