APED: "might have been"

Might have been pretty,
might have been rich,
might have been something to see.
Might have been anything, anyone, anywhere,
somehow I wound up just me.

Might have been famous,
might have done good,
might have been someone renowned.
Might have been, could've been, should've been, would've been,
didn't, and it's too late now.

Life gets you smothered,
one thing, then another,
lots of things never get done,
but the things that you could do, and should do, and would do,
will get done
by someone.

Might have been someone, might have done something,
might have got up off my ass.
Might have gone somewhere, walking or running,
might have done more than watch my life pass,
might have been born more,
but might have made more of
whatever God made me to be --
might have been anything, anyone, anywhere,
somehow I wound up just me.
